Exodus 2:23 And it came to pass in process of time, that the king of Egypt died: and the children of Israel sighed by reason of the bondage, and they cried, and their cry came up unto God by reason of the bondage. When Jesus was "Transfigured" on the mountain, one of the two people who spoke with Jesus was Moses. Moses would have had all the perks and privileges of a prince of Egypt. Again Moses showed his courage and prowess as a warrior because he took on the shepherds (perhaps with the girls help) and routed them. The God of the fathers had been known mostly as El Elyon (God Most High) or El Shaddai (God of the Mountain or Almighty God), but he identified himself to Moses as Yahweh and gave instructions that he was to be called by his new name from then on. And he put his hand into his bosom again; and plucked it out of his bosom, and, behold, it was turned again as his [other] flesh.4:8 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe thee, neither hearken to the voice of the first sign, that they will believe the voice of the latter sign.4:9 And it shall come to pass, if they will not believe also these two signs, neither hearken unto thy voice, that thou shalt take of the water of the river, and pour [it] upon the dry [land]: and the water which thou takest out of the river shall become blood upon the dry [land].4:10 And Moses said unto the LORD, O my Lord, I [am] not eloquent, neither heretofore, nor since thou hast spoken unto thy servant: but I [am] slow of speech, and of a slow tongue.4:11 And the LORD said unto him, Who hath made man's mouth? Regardless of how one interprets the burning bush, the important fact is that Moses was conscious of an encounter with Deity. Moses was born in Egypt during the enslavement of the Jews. English Standard Version At this retort Moses fled and became an exile in the land of Midian, where he became the father of two sons. The Bible says that Moses became the meekest man on earth ( Numbers 12:3 ). Amram lived long enough to see Moses' great-grandkids, his own great-great-grandchildren, 2 and mentor Ahijah the Shilonite. By sheer determination he fought his way out, but in the light of his purpose the battle was an utter failure. With brother Aaron, he now approached the Pharaoh, telling him to let go his people because the God of Israel had demanded so. 4. He had spent the first 40 years of his life in the household of the Pharaoh, ruler of Egypt and then 40 years in the desert as a shepherd, before he returned to . Moses stayed on with Jethro and eventually married Zipporah, one of the daughters. Moses years in the court are passed over in silence, but it is evident from his accomplishments later that he had instruction in religious, civil, and military matters. probably the very oldest passage in the whole bible Pharaoh Egyptian King -- his subjects treat him as God. Moses was just over 80 years old. It can be seen in the verses above that God was always with them, leading them with the cloud by day and fire by night. The Bible does not say a lot about the early life of Moses, but we do know this much: For further study, (if you have not read it already) read: When Moses was a full 40 years old (Acts 7:23) he came upon an Egyptian who was beating an Israelite slave. Later Jewish and Christian tradition assumed 40-year periods for his stay in the Egyptian court, his sojourn in Midian, and his wilderness wanderings. He represents God's people who will die and then beresurrected and taken to heaven when Jesus returns. Moshe was 120 years old and this was the 40th year the Jews were in the Desert. There his two sons were born. After receiving God's call to return to Egypt to lead the Hebrew people out of bondage ( Exodus 3:74:9 ), Moses took Zipporah and their two children and began to travel to Egypt. On his seventh day as king, the troops approached him. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well.2:16 Now the priest of Midian had seven daughters: and they came and drew [water], and filled the troughs to water their father's flock.2:17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered their flock.2:18 And when they came to Reuel their father, he said, How [is it that] ye are come so soon to day?2:19 And they said, An Egyptian delivered us out of the hand of the shepherds, and also drew [water] enough for us, and watered the flock.2:20 And he said unto his daughters, And where [is] he? Mariam came and asked her if she would like to have an Israelite woman look after the child for her and so Moses was able to live in his own home and actually be protected by Pharaoh until he was about 12 years old. Amram and Jochebed became the parents of Aaron, Moses, and their sister, Miriam. let the men go, that they may serve the LORD their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?10:8 And Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve the LORD your God: [but] who [are] they that shall go?10:9 And Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old, with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we [must hold] a feast unto the LORD.10:10 And he said unto them, Let the LORD be so with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look [to it]; for evil [is] before you.10:11 Not so: go now ye [that are] men, and serve the LORD; for that ye did desire. God had a much better plan for him. This must be one of the Hebrew children, she said. and he read the Ten Commandments to them again (Deuteronomy 5). This revelation enabled Moses to understand the God of the Hebrews as the sovereign Lord over nature and the nations of the world. About the time Moses was born, Pharaoh made a decree that all male children were to be killed (Exodus 1), but Jochebed was able to hide Moses for about 3 months. He killed theEgyptian and because of this impulsive act he had to flee from Egypt and from Pharaoh. Moses and Pharaoh. The family consists of sister Miriam (roughly twelve years old) and brother Aaron (three years old). The babys sister then stood at a distance, watching to see what would happen to him. One of the measures taken by the Egyptians to restrict the growth of the Hebrews was to order the death of all newborn Hebrew males. 13:21 And the LORD went before them by day in a pillar of a cloud, to lead them the way; and by night in a pillar of fire, to give them light; to go by day and night:13:22 He took not away the pillar of the cloud by day, nor the pillar of fire by night, [from] before the people. After checking to make sure that no one was in sight, he killed the tough Egyptian overlord. 24:18 And Moses went into the midst of the cloud, and gat him up into the mount: and Moses was in the mount forty days and forty nights. The people complain again and God sends a fire. Ramses II became king as a teenager and reigned for 67 years. Then he was ordered to remove his sandals because he was standing on holy ground. There he saw the oppressive measures under which they laboured. Soon Pharaohs daughter came down to bathe in the river, and her attendants walked along the riverbank. And the people bowed the head and worshipped.12:28 And the children of Israel went away, and did as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so did they.12:29 And it came to pass, that at midnight the LORD smote all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, from the firstborn of Pharaoh that sat on his throne unto the firstborn of the captive that [was] in the dungeon; and all the firstborn of cattle.12:30 And Pharaoh rose up in the night, he, and all his servants, and all the Egyptians; and there was a great cry in Egypt; for [there was] not a house where [there was] not one dead.12:31 And he called for Moses and Aaron by night, and said, Rise up, [and] get you forth from among my people, both ye and the children of Israel; and go, serve the LORD, as ye have said.12:32 Also take your flocks and your herds, as ye have said, and be gone; and bless me also. Jocheved had the rare distinction of both entering and leaving Egypt, 1 and according to tradition she actually outlived her son Moses and entered the Holy Land (at the age of 250!). Moses returned to Egypt, possibly at the age of forty, during the reign of Ramses II. And also, behold, he cometh forth to meet thee: and when he seeth thee, he will be glad in his heart.4:15 And thou shalt speak unto him, and put words in his mouth: and I will be with thy mouth, and with his mouth, and will teach you what ye shall do.4:16 And he shall be thy spokesman unto the people: and he shall be, [even] he shall be to thee instead of a mouth, and thou shalt be to him instead of God.4:17 And thou shalt take this rod in thine hand, wherewith thou shalt do signs.4:18 And Moses went and returned to Jethro his father in law, and said unto him, Let me go, I pray thee, and return unto my brethren which [are] in Egypt, and see whether they be yet alive. Moses was also told ahead of time that Pharaoh would not let the people go at first, but finally after10 plagues fellon the Egyptians Pharaoh sent for Moses and told him to take the Israelites out of Egypt. Earlier this month, the Texas Senate passed a bill requiring the Ten Commandments to be displayed in every classroom in the Lone Star State. What is said though, tells us a great deal.
